Community Events

The Candy Bomber Foundation celebrates Col. Gail S. Halvorsen’s legacy at community events with stories, STEAM activities, and service projects, inspiring empowerment, gratitude, and education for all ages. Catch us this summer Tremonton’s Hay Days, Pleasant Grove’s Strawberry Days, (Nephi’s Ute Stampede or Juab County Fair), and Spanish Fork’s Wings and Wheels.

School Visits

The Candy Bomber Foundation visits local schools to share Col. Gail S. Halvorsen’s inspiring Berlin Airlift story, motivating students with STEAM, aviation, and character lessons to carry his legacy of hope, resilience, and kindness into the future.

Candy Drops

The Candy Bomber Foundation reenacts Col. Gail S. Halvorsen’s Berlin Airlift candy drops at community events and schools, spreading joy and hope to a new generation while inspiring kindness and resilience through his enduring legacy.

Developing Programs

CampSOAR
This summer camp for 5th graders instills Attitude, Gratitude, and Service before Self, inspired by Col. Gail S. Halvorsen’s candy drops, guiding campers to explore kindness through hands-on activities and enact community service plans over two weeks.
The Candy Bomber Flight Academy
The Candy Bomber Aviation Summer Camp for 7th-9th graders explores aviation and instills Attitude, Gratitude, and Service before Self through STEAM-based flight simulations and workshops, inspired by Col. Gail S. Halvorsen’s question, “What are you going to do with your two sticks of gum?”
Starbase Utah
This program for 5th graders ignites curiosity and teamwork through a hands-on STEAM curriculum, where students explore Newton’s Laws, robotics, and design projects like space stations, applying math and critical thinking to real-world challenges.
Aviator Capstone
This scholarship supports aviation students in their final phase by funding flight training and certification, celebrating their perseverance and launching them into careers as certified pilots.
Operation STEAM Drop
Operation STEAM Drop delivers STEAM kits with aviation and robotics activities to kids on U.S. military bases worldwide, inspiring innovation and a connection to home, echoing Col. Gail S. Halvorsen’s Berlin Airlift candy drops.
Halvorsen Humanitarian Academy Training for Youth
Halvorsen Humanitarian Academy delivers basic instruction on humanitarian service and relief operations. Participants will meet in 2-3 hour weekend sessions using scenario-based leadership learning capped by a realistic day-long problem-solving humanitarian exercise at the end of the course.
The Candy Bomber Education Center Programs
The Halvorsen Heritage Center will be built at the Spanish Fork Airport and will feature 20,000 square feet in an Art-Deco style. This center will serve as the primary platform for the Candy Bomber Foundation’s education and service initiatives while also
supporting like-minded organizations such as the Civil Air Patrol. It will include a museum dedicated to the story of Gail Halvorsen, the Berlin Candy Bomber, with exhibits showcasing historical artifacts and multimedia displays about humanitarian relief operations, both civil and military.
Speaker’s Bureau
The Candy Bomber Foundation Speaker’s Bureau features inspiring presentations by foundation members and local veteran aviators, sharing the legacy of Colonel Gail Halvorsen and the Berlin Airlift. Through firsthand stories and historical insights, speakers
highlight themes of service, aviation, and humanitarianism to educate and inspire audiences of all ages. These presentations honor the past while encouraging future generations to lead with compassion and courage.
